Tonight as I rounded the curve in our street just before our house I nearly had a heart attack. There was a fire truck parked on the street that runs into ours, and I was so distracted by it that I nearly ran over the fire hose that was attached to the truck directly in front of our house. My heart in my throat, I went as far as I could, slammed it in park, and jumped out of the car. As I got close, I was overwhelmed with relief to see that it wasn't our house, then stunned to see that the house directly across the street from us was in ruins. From what I could gather from the crowd of neighbors (and eventually from the father of the family that lived there) there was some sort of explosion, and the house just went up in flames. He and his wife were the only ones inside, although their daughter was somewhere on the property. Fortunately everyone got out unharmed, but the fire was devastating.
Nick and our daughter were in our driveway as I walked up, and we just huddled together and prayed for the family and thanked God for our blessings. They were able to get a few things out, and Nick offered the use of our garage for storage. They were mostly too dazed to know what to do. The poor father wandered around wrapped in a blanket, just staring at his home. Any prayers I know would be appreciated.

A Lovely Sunday
Yesterday Nick and I took our little girl to an event in our city's historic distric downtown. The city's theater, originally built in the twenties, has just been reopened in the last few months after a 2 year renovation project. They had a short stage show, followed by cartoons and a movie for $2.00 admission. The theater was beautiful - they really preserved the original feel of it. Afterwards everyone moved to the old market square for ice cream, soft drinks, and entertainment. It was a lovely treat for just the price of our movie tickets.
We came home afterwards with every intention of going to church, but our little girl was sound asleep, and when Nick laid her on the bed, he made the mistake of lying down with her. Within minutes he was just as fast asleep. I played on the computer for an hour or so, then finally gave up and lay down with them, figuring if everyone else got a nap, I was going to too.Alas, it was not to be. As soon as I got comfy, my dad called and asked us to come up for dinner. Because of my work schedule, I don't get to see my parents as much as I would like, so I woke Nick and the little one up and we got ready. At one point he grabbed his wooden hairbrush, and catching me off guard, pounced on me and started spanking. "But I didn't doooo anything!"
"Who said you had to do anything?"
The dinner and the company was nice, and it was fairly late when we got back home. Nick decided he was in a playful mood, and he got down the bath brush (yes, the one I hate most). The next few minutes consisted of him trying to wrestle me into place and me trying to get the brush out of his hands, something I wouldn't dare try during a serious spanking, but this one wasn't serious. It was, however, very much felt, and again, I think he was trying to tenderize me for later.
Later, he took me to the garage and got out the leather slapper. He told me that while I'd done pretty well this last week, he could feel me fading, and he felt like I needed a motivational spanking. He made me bend over the hood of the car. I felt his arms encircle me, and then he unfastened my jeans and pulled them down, followed by my panties. The spanking was hard and fast, probably 55 or so swats before I got out of position. This is something I do much better at now, but sometimes it still happens. He told me that he'd been on the last couple of swats, but that I was going to get 10 more since I'd moved. The last 10 of course were awful, and afterwards he said that I had a very interesting set of stripes on my butt.
When it was done we went upstairs and made love. After we recovered, we went downstairs to lock the doors, set the alarm, etc. We brought our little girl upstairs, and went to bed after we'd all cuddled and kissed and had lots of "group hugs" and "kiss attacks" tickles and raspberries on bellies. It was a lovely weekend.

The Dollar Tree and the Greatest Show on Earth
We took our little girl to the circus tonight. It was the first time for her, and the first time in years for both Nick and I. It was hugely entertaining, and it brought back all the wonder of seeing it as a child. What wasn't wonderful: the prices. Eight dollar lemonade, nine dollar cotton candy, ten dollar sno cones. And of course the wacky spinning light toys - a cool eighteen dollars. The tickets went pretty high too, although ours weren't too bad at $17.00 a piece. But they went as high as $66.00 each for floor seats. Not that we bought lemonade, cotton candy, sno cones or wacky spinning light toys. Nick did break down and get a popcorn/Coke combo for $7.00, but that's about what you'd pay at the movies.
But I remember being a kid at the circus and fervently coveting all those flashing light toys, knowing my parents were too sensible to shell out that kind of cash. Sooo...before we went, we stopped at the Dollar Tree and got 2 glow stick necklaces and 4 glow stick bracelets - for $2.00 + tax. She was just as happy and we got dinner for the whole family with the price difference.
I LOOOVE dollar only stores, but I invariably leave them feeling a little pissed off. I mean really, getting batteries for a buck a pack makes you realize how much other merchants are screwing you on some things. And the stock is so fluid at dollar stores that, while you can ALWAYS get a great deal on something, you can't necessarily count on them carrying from week to week a product you regularly use.
But they're a great source of spanky toys. They had some great bath brushes, which I may go back for in a day or two. And the glow stick jewelry came in a long, hard plastic tube to keep them from getting broken and activated before purchase. I think we may have a new implement. WEG.
