Now I have...strep throat. Ugh! Okay, so this has been a bad month for me. And even better than the strep, guess what happened this morning. I went in to work because I missed Thursday and Friday and am out of sick time. Well, technically I have like 4 more days of paid sick time this year, but not with my department. See the way my company works, all your sick time for the year resets on your hire anniversary date, which for me was in December. But in my department, you don't get your time back until one year after you use it. In other words, if you miss 5 days with the flu in November 2007, you don't have permission to use the 5 days again until November 2008, despite the fact that everything resets with the company in December 2007.
So anyway, I don't have another sick day free up until next month, according to the department guidelines, so I went on and went in today, doctor's note in hand. And they sent me home, kindly informing that they'll be writing me up for missing today. Arrrggghhh! I mean seriously, I don't want to be there infecting everyone, but if they say I can't miss without getting written up, what can I do? So I figured that at least if I went in and they made the decision to send me home, then they couldn't write me up for it. Ha! Sometimes my job drives me insane. It's a good company, with good benefits, and I don't want to go somewhere else, but I would loooove to change departments!
Anyhoo, that's what's been happening in my life since I last posted. Anything else? Hmmm...Morgan got to go skating for the first time Sunday afternoon. Her best friend's parents took her (and her best friend of course), and she had a blast, which made me happy, but kind of sad too that I didn't get to be there to see it.
Valentine's Day was pretty quiet for us. I got Nick a tattoo, although it was less of a Valentine's gift than just something he wanted. It was a good day though.
My papaw is not doing well at all. He's been battling pneumonia for a bit now, and it's weakened him to the point where they feel like it's only a matter of time before we lose him. I have mixed emotions on this. I have found that when I lose someone like this, my grandmothers, my other grandfather, Nick's mom, I end up in a state of suspended emotion until they are actually gone. When I lost my grandmother a couple of years ago I really thought I was prepared. She was in her nineties, in very poor health, and definitely better off once she passed. And it was awful to see the physical and emotional toll taking care of her put on my parents. But when it came time to bury her, everything crashed inside me, and it hit me a lot harder than I was expecting.
I feel like I'm facing the same with my papaw. While he's not quite 80 yet, he is in very poor health, no quality of life at all, just confined to a bed right now, and more often than not he's not aware of his surroundings. When he is, he's very upset to be so sick, and he's made my mom promise not to ever put him on a respirator. With the pneumonia, that may become a very real issue. My parents are both run ragged, one of them out there with him almost all the time, and it's tearing at my mom to see him in this shape. At this point he will be in a much better place when he passes, and while I don't want that to happen, I also don't want to see him suffer, and my mom with him.
In other news, one of my very dear friends is facing a divorce. In fact she had to file the papers on Valentine's Day. When I say she had to file, I mean that literally. Her husband has gotten into some very serious drugs, and he's become a danger to her and their three year old daughter. She's had numerous problems with him in the past, but it's mostly been infidelity before. This time when he told her he didn't want to be a part of the family anymore (followed by the "I've been doing crack for a year" revelation), she told him to go. Still, she's understandably struggling with all of this, and I (and she) would appreciate any prayers for their situation.
As far as spanking goes, if you took a look at my house, you could see that I've got one heck of one owed to me, but so far I've been too sick to do anything to me but bring me medicine. Hope things are better for you guys!
Hey, guys. I know it must have looked like I'd fallen off the face of the earth, but I promise I'm still here. I've been sick for one, although I'm pretty much through that. Right now we're having some issues with my laptop, so I've really only had access through work - definitely not a friendly environment for posting and surfing. Also, my Photobucket account has exceeded it's bandwith for the month, so my blog looks like it's under construction. Hopefully we'll get it all fixed very soon and I'll be back up and running. Thank you so much for all your sweet thoughts and comments. I miss you all!
Sorry it's been so quiet on here lately, everyone. I've been down with the flu, and most nights I've just fallen right into bed as soon as I got home. Hopefully I'll be back up to posting soon.
