"Did someone hit the truck in your front yard?" (In our subdivision a lot of people park on the street in front of their house. Because the Suburban is such a big vehicle we keep it on our side of the curb at the edge of our property. The first picture is not our truck, but it's the same year and model, to give you an idea of the size.
"Why? Does it look like someone hit it?"

"Why? Does it look like someone hit it?"
A friend of G's whose parents also live in our neighborhood had called my coworker to tell her about this crazy car wreck on our street where someone had crashed into a Suburban. The neighbors and the police were trying to figure who the truck's owner was and contact them. Knowing that we owned one, G thought she'd check with us.
Long story relatively short, it was ours. About a month and 1/2 ago a new family moved in 4 houses down from us. The husband's 16 year old niece had moved in with them, and Friday, high on cocaine, she and three of her friends decided to steal her uncle's car and drive around the subdivision as fast as they could. After nearly running several people off the road, they slammed into the parked Suburban doing roughly 70 MPH. That they weren't killed is a miracle. This is a BIG truck, and the impact pushed it sideways 23 feet across the yard. They hit it hard enough to actually break the lip off the left front wheel. If it hadn't been parked there they would have been in our living room. They got a bit banged up, but jumped out of the stolen car, leaving it in the road and taking off toward the girl's (uncle's) house.
The girl who lives across the street from us saw the crash happen, and she ran after the fleeing teenagers. She called the cops and planted herself outside the uncle's house to make sure they didn't leave. After a couple of minutes they came flying out of the house and jumped in a van. The girl from across the street tried to detain them and got punched in the stomach for her trouble. Fortunately she got the plate numbers from the van, and they were arrested later that afternoon. The pictures below are the results of the crash.

We had no insurance on the Suburban because it was just a project car and not being driven. The girl's uncle claims that he had recently dropped insurance coverage on his (stolen) car because it had been in the shop for a month and he'd just gotten it back. However, he also said that the car was still financed which, in our state at least, means that he's required to carry full coverage insurance. Anyway, we're supposed to get the police report tomorrow, so we'll go from there on getting someone to make reimbursement.
Saturday night we went camping. Yes, it was quite cold, but we had a good time. I had Morgan bundled up in two of everything, in a sleeping bag and under two heave blankets, cuddled between Nick and I. In the middle of the night she kicked of her socks in the sleeping bag and got (literally) cold feet. So of course I had her crawl into mine with me. That would have been fine, except for the fact that she curled into a ball, causing the zipper to unzip and my butt to freeze all night. Too bad we weren't in a good place for Nick to warm it up!
I very much enjoyed the camping trip, but the rest of the weekend was a very stressful cap on a pretty stressful work week, and I'm definitely in need of some stress relief of the spanking kind!

Wow, that really stinks. Hopefully some adult will step up and offer to make this right... since obiously a coke head 16 year old wont be able to pay. No way you guys should have to stress any more about this.
Todd & Suzy
I am really glad they hit the car and not your house. That could have been really serious. I hope all works out for you. Thank God for His hand of protection on everyone!
What a mess! I hope it gets straightened out with no more hassle to you guys. And I also hope you soon fine the time for our own brand of stress relief!!
Hugs,
PK
Tracy, so that big truck was a blessing in a way, fortunately nobody got hurt, not even the driver.
I hope that it gets sorted without further expense to you.
Mel and I loved to camp at any time of the year, I don't think Mel ever complained about a cold butt, because it wouldn't have stayed cold long.
Hopefully Nick will be able to sort your stress soon.
Warm hugs,
Paul.
Wow, that sucks!
Thank goodness everyone is ok. Maybe now someone will get the teen some help for her coke problems.
Hopefully the uncle will do the right thing and pay up. Of course, I've watched enough Peoples court to know that if you sue the girl, you WILL win, but might have to wait until she's 18 for her to pay up!
Lucky it wasn't your everyday car. Lucky nobody got hurt!
Lucky your house is still in tact!
Yup, lucky, indeed!
(Hope this makes you feel a little bit better!)
HUGS!

Thank you for the commiseration, Todd & Suzy. We're just trying to take the view that at least no one was seriously hurt.
BB, you're absolutely right. God was definitely looking out for everybody in the neighborhood.
Thanks, PK. I hope so too!
Thanks, Paul. It really could have been so much worse. And hopefully we'll get a chance to work out some of that stress very soon!
Grace, you always say just the right thing!!
